The pictures only hint at the true majesty of Porto Katsiki, and as you descend the 347 steps you may find yourself stopping to appreciate it from above.
For a better view of the whole scene there’s also a stairway to an outcrop on the north side.
Once you’re down on Porto Katsiki the beach is equally beautiful, with rounded pebbles and mesmerising turquoise waters.
Bring flip flops for added comfort on the stony surface.
On the south-western coast of the island, about 17 km from Vasiliki, is the secluded beach of Egremni, a beautiful long beach with silky white sand and crystal clear Caribbean blue water. The colours, the water and the landscape are not reminiscent of Greece. It is a painting from the wildest dreams of the Caribbean.
The scene is also impressive at sunset, when the majestic rocks glow red. Egremin is ideal for sunbathing, reading a book, swimming or snorkelling.
A traditional fishing village of Lefkada, Vasiliki is one of the best places on the island for many reasons. The charming port of the village offer daily boat excursions, the streets are filled by great restaurants and coffee bars, and it is also an exceptional windsurf spot in Greece. The long beach of Vasiliki is shallow and wide, and one of the most important information: the famous beaches of Lefkada west coast, Egremni beach and Porto Katsiki are situated just about 15 kilometers away from the village.
Kathisma beach is a sandy, well organized beach in the west side of Lefkada. It has a long stretch of shingle sand, with some gorgeous scenery due to its high-sided cliffs. You’ll also find a big selection of water sports here, as well as sunbeds and umbrellas. It is one of the most famous and most beautiful beach of Lefkada and of the entire Greece. By the sea, you can enjoy your drink, coffee or lunch.
Visit Kathisma before 11 in the morning or after 4 in the afternoon in order to avoid traffic.
The monastеry is verу оld аnd it had existеd befοre thе Ottoman аnd Venetian rulе, but after а fire in 1887 it was rеbuilt in its previоus state. It is devotеd tо Virgin Mary whο is pаtron saint оf the island аnd manу religiοus cеlebrations аre hеld there annually. The monastеry hоsts аn ecсlesiastic musеum and а small navаl museum, and in the gardеn there is аlsο a primitivе zoо with dοmestic animаls and birds. Currently a fеw monks live therе аnd acсept visitоrs evеrу day, excluding the hοurs bеtween 2 аnd 4 pm.
There are four rooms of artefacts, the first of which deals with the private and public lives of Lefkada’s residents in Ancient Greece.
Especially remarkable are the fragments of lyres, flutes and the soundbox of a string instrument. Another intriguing artefact is a small seal showing Europe’s abduction by Zeus in the guise of a white bull. The third room is dedicated to burial customs and has urns, funerary steles, sarcophagi and offerings, while the fourth room has the many finds made by the German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld.
